The activities of the Laboratory include: a) theoretical and laboratory teaching and training of students in courses, b) preparation of undergraduate theses, c) student internships, d) research activities through participation in and/or coordination of regional, national, bilateral, and European competitive programmes, e) provision of services to organizations and institutions, f) procurement and maintenance of equipment, and g) networking with other laboratories and organizations related to forest research and practice. More specifically, the research activities of the Laboratory focus on: development of tools for the assessment and monitoring of sustainable forest ecosystem management, certification of sustainable forest management, development of suitability/capability/impact models for renewable natural resources at appropriate spatial scales and levels of detail for sustainable development and management, development of growth and yield models for commercial forest species, optimization of production systems and use of woody biomass within the framework of sustainability, decision-making tools for development planning and sustainable management of renewable natural resources using multicriteria analysis, fuzzy logic, decision support systems, and expert systems, development of tools for assessing economic, social, and institutional resources within the framework of sustainable development and management of renewable natural resources, valuation of ecosystem services and cost-benefit analyses, establishment and operation of intergovernmental models and structures for the planning and management of sustainable development, innovative development models for forest circular bioeconomy, development of educational material for students and other stakeholder groups on issues of sustainable management of renewable natural resources and bioeconomy, and innovative wood products and green technologies.
