Laboratory of Materials Technology

The Laboratory of Materials supports research and education in materials technology, with emphasis on functional, composite and nanostructured materials for energy, thermal management and sustainable engineering applications. Its activities combine material synthesis, thermal and mechanical characterization, surface analysis and computational approaches, addressing phase change materials, thermal energy storage, waste heat recovery, industrial waste valorisation and solid-liquid interfacial phenomena.

Introduction - Presentation

The Laboratory of Materials supports research and education in materials technology, with emphasis on functional, composite and nanostructured materials for energy, thermal management and sustainable engineering applications. Its activities combine material synthesis, thermal and mechanical characterization, surface analysis and computational approaches, addressing phase change materials, thermal energy storage, waste heat recovery, industrial waste valorisation and solid-liquid interfacial phenomena.

Field of Research

Composite and nanostructured materials. Phase change materials and composite PCMs. Thermal energy storage and waste heat recovery. Thermal conductivity, thermal resistance and thermophysical characterization of materials. Mechanical testing of engineering materials. Metallography, microscopy and surface inspection. Valorisation of industrial by-products such as red mud for circular-economy materials. Molecular modelling and simulation of wetting, dewetting and solid-liquid interfaces. Energy materials for sustainable industrial applications.
