Introduction - Presentation

The machines, implemented either in hardware or software, with which a human interacts are multiplying. Their complexity is also increasing. These machines can include communication devices, computers, robots, customer service software and more. The institutionalized Human Machine Interaction Laboratory (HUMAIN LAB) seeks to study, analyze and design both the hardware and software that allow seamless cooperation between humans and machines.

Field of Research

The Laboratory has as its main purpose high-level interdisciplinary research on issues related to the study/design/development of methodologies/algorithms/systems and the provision of educational/consulting services as well as development/business initiatives regarding technologies through which humans can interact with machines (software and/or hardware). The research subjects of the Laboratory include: 1. Computational intelligence, logic and reasoning. 2. Cognitive, social, semi-autonomous and autonomous robotic systems and vehicles. 3. Machine vision, signal processing (audio, image, video, etc.), biometric systems, pattern recognition, fusion of disparate data types, innovative information representation and processing techniques. 4. Machine learning, natural language processing, modern computing methods e.g. emotional computing, big data computing, etc. 5. Interfaces, e.g. in Internet of Things applications, cyber-physical systems, social networks, sensor networks. 6. Parallel and distributed computing as well as high-performance computing.
