Introduction - Presentation
The Electromagnetic Theory Laboratory of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH/EMT) was established in 1977 and has extensive experience in Space Science and Technology.
Field of Research
The main activities in Space Science are focused in Space Plasma Electrodynamics with the Processing and Analysis of Energetic Particles, Plasma and Electromagnetic Fields Data obtained by a long series of NASA, ESA, ISAS, INTERKOSMOS and RAS Spacecraft, such as: Explorers-33, 34 and 35, IMP-6, 7 and 8, Pioneers-10 and 11, Voyagers-1 and 2, Helios-1 and 2, ISEE-1, 2 and 3, MAGSAT, Prognoz-10, AMPTE/CCE, ULYSSES, GEOTAIL, INTERBALL TAIL (Main Probe and Sub-satellite), INTERBALL AURORA (Main Probe and Sub-satellite), ACE, WIND, Demeter, CLUSTER-II (4 Satellites) and THEMIS (5 Satellites). Based on the above, DUTH/EMT has been active in theoretical studies and modeling of Energetic Particles and Plasma Phenomena in Solar, Interplanetary, Magnetospheric, Ionospheric Physics and Astrophysics, as well as in the analysis of time series of energetic particle fluxes and electromagnetic fields data. In the field of Space Technology, DUTH/EMT has acquired pioneering expertise in the development of radiation hardened electronics for space applications, the development of CubeSat nano-satellites (DUTHSat GR01 and DUTHSat-2), and in space instrumentation.
