Introduction - Presentation

The Laboratory aims to: (a) Support teaching and the overall educational process at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, (b) Conduct basic and applied research in the fields of Forest Protection and Environmental Pollution, (c) Provide specialized scientific work and consulting services to third parties, including natural and legal persons, through expert opinions, assessments, and studies, (d) Promote outreach and collaboration with universities and research institutions in Greece and abroad, with the aim of optimally serving the aforementioned objectives.

Field of Research

The areas of study covered by the Laboratory include, among others, forest pathology, forest entomology, forest fires, and the general protection of forests and the natural environment, as well as the effects of pollution and atmospheric factors on both natural and human-made environments. In particular, the Laboratory promotes the study of damage caused by biotic factors (insects, fungi, bacteria, etc.) and abiotic factors (climatic conditions, fires, unsuitable soils, pollution, etc.) to the natural environment and to humans. The Laboratory’s scope also includes the chemical and biological control of the most significant biotic agents that cause damage to trees and shrubs, with particular emphasis on preventive measures aimed at reducing or avoiding such damage.
