Laboratory of Robotics and Automation

The Laboratory of Robotics and Automation, operating within the Department of Production and Management Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace, conducts and promotes research in industrial and service robotics, autonomous systems, computer vision, artificial intelligence, and industrial automation. The laboratory develops innovative solutions addressing scientific and technological challenges associated with Industry 4.0, intelligent manufacturing, human-centred robotics, unmanned systems, and digital transformation. Through national and international research projects, it contributes to the advancement of robotics and intelligent technologies for industrial, transportation, healthcare, safety, and environmental applications.

The Laboratory of Robotics and Automation, operating within the Department of Production and Management Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace, conducts and promotes research in industrial and service robotics, autonomous systems, computer vision, artificial intelligence, and industrial automation. The laboratory develops innovative solutions addressing scientific and technological challenges associated with Industry 4.0, intelligent manufacturing, human-centred robotics, unmanned systems, and digital transformation. Through national and international research projects, it contributes to the advancement of robotics and intelligent technologies for industrial, transportation, healthcare, safety, and environmental applications.

Field of Research

The Laboratory of Robotics and Automation conducts research in robotics, artificial intelligence, computer vision, autonomous systems, machine learning, pattern recognition, human–robot interaction, industrial automation, unmanned aerial systems, intelligent sensing, digital twins, and Industry 4.0 technologies. Research activities focus on environmental perception, autonomous navigation, multimodal sensing, explainable AI, cyber-physical systems, and the integration of robotics with IoT, cloud computing, big data analytics, additive manufacturing, cybersecurity, and augmented reality.
